Topic: Clean Hearts, Close Walk 

Text: Leviticus 20:26

"And ye shall be holy unto me: for I the LORD am holy, and have severed you from other people, that ye should be mine."

Reflection:

Holiness is often misunderstood. Many people hear the word and think of strict rules, constant correction, or a list of “do’s and don’ts. Scripture reveals something far more relational. God does not call us to holiness to restrict us,He calls us to holiness to claim us.

In Leviticus 20:26, God says, “You shall be holy unto Me.” Notice the direction of the holiness. Holiness is not about people, it is about belonging to God. The verse continues, 

“I have severed you from other people, that you should be Mine.” Holiness begins with separation, not separation rooted in pride, but separation rooted in love and purpose.

To be holy means to be set apart for intimacy with God. It is the fruit of a close walk, not the requirement for one.

A clean heart is not a perfect heart,it is a surrendered heart. David prayed, “Create in me a clean heart, O God” because he understood that purity is God’s work before it is our discipline. Clean hearts are sensitive hearts. They respond quickly when God convicts, they desire what pleases Him, and they grieve what distances them from His presence.

Holiness starts on the inside:

What we love

What we tolerate

What we feed our minds and eyes

What we excuse in our hearts

When God cleans the heart, the life naturally follows.

Close Walk

Holiness thrives in proximity. The closer we walk with God, the more our desires begin to align with His. Rules try to control behavior from the outside; relationship transforms behavior from the inside.

We don’t walk holy to get close to God, we walk holy because we are close to Him.
