Topic : Living as Light in a Dark World - Purity Is Part Of Your Light.
Text : 1 Thessalonians 4:3-7
"For this is the will of God, that you be sanctified [separated and set apart from sin]: that you abstain and back away from sexual immorality; that each of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor [being available for God’s purpose and separated from things profane], not [to be used] in lustful passion, like the Gentiles who do not know God and are ignorant of His will; and that [in this matter of sexual misconduct] no man shall transgress and defraud his brother because the Lord is the avenger in all these things, just as we have told you before and solemnly warned you. For God has not called us to impurity, but to holiness [to be dedicated, and set apart by behavior that pleases Him, whether in public or in private].
Reflection:
Purity is part of your light. When you choose God's way in a culture that encourages compromise, your life quietly declares that God's standards are still worth honouring.
His call to purity is not an outdated standard; it is part of His desire for our lives. Scripture says, “For this is the will of God, even your sanctification.”
We live in a world where many things that once seemed wrong can gradually become normal through repeated exposure. What we watch, listen to, read, laugh about, or participate in can shape our understanding of what is acceptable. When something is constantly presented as harmless. But God's standard is not determined by culture.
Purity begins in the heart. It is not simply about avoiding certain outward behaviours; it is about allowing God to shape our thoughts, motives, desires, choices, and relationships. A pure life asks, “Does this honour God?” rather than only, “How far can I go without calling it sin?”
This is why boundaries matter.
Sometimes choosing purity means walking away from a conversation, unfollowing something that continually influences you negatively, being careful about what you consume online, or refusing to participate when friends encourage you toward something that compromises your convictions.
Living in purity may sometimes make you feel different from those around you. But being different for Christ is not something to be ashamed of.
Key Point:
What influence or habit do I need to examine more carefully because it may be affecting my commitment to purity?
Prayer :
Father, give me a pure heart and the wisdom to recognize influences that can lead me away from You in Jesus name
