Topic: Walking in the Spirit - Not By Human Effort
Text: Zechariah 4:6
“Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.”
Reflection:
Walking in the Spirit means recognising that we cannot live the Christian life successfully by our own strength alone. No matter how determined we are, there are battles we cannot win through human effort alone. We need the help of the Holy Spirit.
Sometimes, we try to overcome certain weaknesses by making promises to ourselves. We say we will never get angry again, never return to a particular sin, or never allow fear to control us. Yet, when the same situations arise, we find ourselves struggling again. The problem is not that making a decision is wrong; it is that our determination must be supported by dependence on the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit strengthens us to overcome temptation, gives us grace to obey God, and helps us remain faithful when our human strength is failing. Depending on Him does not mean becoming passive or refusing to make an effort. It means recognising our limitations and allowing His power to work in us as we take steps of obedience.
We were never meant to walk with God by relying entirely on ourself but our responsibility is to yield, obey, and remain connected to Him and His Spirit empowers you to live in a way that pleases Him.
Remember, walking in the spirit is not about how strong you are, but how willing you are to depend on Him.
Key Point:
In what area of my Christian life have I been relying more on my own strength than on the Holy Spirit?
Prayer:
Father, I acknowledge my need for your spirit, and Forgive me for the times I have depended entirely on my own strength.
